Parents do you know who gave us the vacation homework? It is Mr.Brian. He gave us the homework. Do you want to know why? It is really simple. He did because next year he will be our homeroom teacher. He gave us the homework to watch the twilight zone and wrote a story. We saw the movie already. Also, Mr. Patrick has to give 3rd grade homework, but he has a lot of thing to do, and his stupid computer is not working. So, we helped make the homework to give 3rd grade. He was very proud of us, so we were all so happy too.

Strange Korean TeacherOur Korean Teacher is acting strange. She was not before, but now she’s very strange! Every lunch time, playing time for girls, she comes to our class and checks the girls and then she leaves after a minute. We are a little bit scared when she comes. We must think about that. The girls are thinking why, but can’t figure it out. The boys don’t even care. It’s a weird mystery between our girls and the Korean teacher. Why is the Korean teacher doing this?

Surprise Reading TestYesterday we took a reading test. The Teacher just told us we are going to take a test in reading class, but he didn’t tell us what test we are going to take. We took a test like SRI. We needed to read paragraphs and answer many questions. Today the teacher told us the scores for many students are much better than the 1st semester. Maybe we need to study for the surprise test regularly.

Short Story: Help!I opened my eyes. What happened? I cannot remember anything. The thing that I can just remember is that I was shopping with my friends. Then I got sleepy…Oh, no!!! Someone kidnapped me??? The reason is…because I’m pretty??? Wait…I’ve heard about this…a man kidnaps a kid and forces their parents to give money! But, he kills the kid…NO!!! I don’t want to be killed by him!
Then I heard a door open. I cannot see because someone tied cloth around my eyes, but I can really hear it. Someone came into the room. It’s coming near…I was so scared, so I shouted.
“Wh…Who is it?” I asked.
“I am your father,” the voice answered.
That’s so funny. He untied the cloth. I can see everything. There were my friends and family. It’s a party! I saw the sign up on the ceiling. It was a happy birthday sign. Yes, it is my birthday. How could I forget?
“Happy birthday!” everyone shouted. I was happy, very happy.
“Thank you, everyone!” I said.
Bug in Soup
A few weeks ago, Mr. Patrick found some caterpillars in his lunch soup. All of the students are afraid to drink the soup after that. Mr. Patrick allowed us not to drink the soup and still get a lunch check. People think our cafeteria kitchen needs to be cleaner than now. Mr. Patrick thinks the bugs are in the soup because they didn’t wash the vegetables. We want a healthy lunch!
Classroom News by Alice Kim, Dave Eom, Brian Seo, Jacky Zheng - 12/10
On Thursday, November 28th, Mr. Patrick found a caterpillar in the school soup, and it was disgusting. Many students drink the soup. Some of the students eat it with rice, and they didn’t know because the caterpillar was white! We couldn’t even find a caterpillar. I hate caterpillars. Many students saw that and they regret eating the soup because maybe they ate a caterpillar too.
WebsiteMr. Patrick made a web site for our class, and it is amazing!!! We can go to the web site and look for important stuff. Mr. Pat put plenty of things on the web site, but he thinks that is not enough. He gave us homework to write some articles. Plus, when we do a lot of them, we get more prizes. The students are working hard writing some articles. Now the web site is full of articles. If you think your day is boring, go see our web site. If you want to get information about our class, you can search the Mr. Pat web page.

Our class is doing a Secret Santa activity. You know about it if you see the newsletter. Someone gives a little present secretly to another person. We already chose the person. Some people chose the “poo poo” card out of the hat, so they got to choose again of course. You cannot give a present to poo poo! Anyway, the students are giving some presents now. Some of them didn’t. We don’t know who did and who didn’t because we need to keep it a secret. Nobody knows. Some people gave a note that tells it’s their Secret Santa or else they could think it’s trash or something instead of a gift. Quickly giving a gift is good, too. Keeping a secret is too hard. Cheer up, everyone! For a coin!
Not Because of DetentionHi, everyone. I’m Clara. A reporter who always writes a bunch of articles for you. I will interview Suzie, Alice, and Christine. I didn’t really interview them, but I overheard their feelings and other things. The story was in Mr. Brigg’s oral English class. We needed to bring a video for show and tell. Four girls didn’t bring their USB, so they told other students do not pick them. They would get detention if someone picked them to go next. A boy picked Christine who’s not ready. DETENTION! Another pick, the boy tried Alice. DETENTION! Another pick, the boy tried Suzie. DETENTION! Of course the last girl got detention too because that’s me. We asked him to not pick us, but he didn’t do a good job. That was not nice. Mr. Briggs said we’re nice if we don’t pick somebody that told others, “DON’T PICK ME!” that’s why. Four girls all cried. First, I cried, then Alice, then Suzie, then Christine. Oh…It’s not fair. I don’t like this.
Bullying ActivityOur class did a bullying activity. We talked about what bullying is and about what’s bullying and about some things that are bad to do. Now we’re working on a homework activity about bullying. We already did a worksheet that is about interviewing our adult family member. The second thing is a bullying chart. When we see someone or some people that are bullying, we can write it on the chart without saying their names. It’s weird that we’re doing this. We already finished, but we keep saying, “TEACHER! SOMEBODY’S BULLYING ME!”, when someone plays a joke or something that’s not serious enough. I hope they stop saying that. That’s not good. The biggest reason is…it’s too noisy!
Final Exams AttackThe next test is going to be our English Final Exam. Tests are boring for students, but the afterward playing time is so thrilling. Adults cannot understand. We still have many many days. So, there’s time to study. Now there is so much work to do, especially the editors of article teams. We’re not even worried about Final Exams yet. Soon tests will attack…and then free time will save us from the final day. Now don’t worry about it. Worry about now-work. Why isn’t there a Goosbumps book, “Final Exams Attack”? It’s a story about alive tests and superman named Freetime will be awesome. Do you think it’s a big deal?
Avatar PostersWe finished our Avatar tests. Now we are working on Avatar posters. We are doing it in groups. First the teacher (the first grade teacher) said we can choose to watch the new Avatar show, other Aang stories, a play, or a poster. We voted, and almost everyone voted play and poster. So, we are doing a poster activity first. We all did a fine job. Some of them did a comic book poster. Some did an Avatar Aang’s four bending and the summary. Some students did the four bendings together in a circle with Aang in the avatar state and writing around it. Some slow pokes didn’t even do it. We are having fun with this activity. Everyone in our class does student-bending.
Hard Spelling Bee SheetsWhen the spelling bee started, the students were very shocked. Mr. Pat brought a bunch of spelling bee sheets. He said that we are going to write down the word that the six people on stage are spelling. If we can spell all of them right, we will get a mushroom! Nobody spelled them all right. Someone almost got them all right, but the spellers spelled so fast that they didn’t’ get it. All of the students did it very good but not all right. The spelling bee sheets were so hard. Actually, the word that spellers spelled was hard. They keep spelling wrong or spelling too fast. It was too hard for us.

On Friday the 15th, we had the two Claires birthday party. We have almost the same name and almost the same birthday. Claire said it was good because we had lots of food and got many good presents. We were happy because Claire’s mother came. I think I was happy too because I got many beautiful presents, and my mom came and celebrated with me. There were fruit cake, oranges, pizza, and chicken. Mr. Patrick liked our oranges because he drew a Halloween pumpkin face on one. Mr. Patrick said it was a fun party, but our moms waited a long time.
Trip to the BeachOn Friday the 15th, we went to the beach for scout class. We had to walk like ten minutes! Then we looked around and wanted to catch small fish, but I could not catch any fish. Some boys caught many many many animals. Brian went in to the water without any socks. I think he was very cold that time. That scout class was a very fun and interesting class. I want to know what will we do next time!
CartoonOn November 15th, we saw a cartoon named “Ddautta” (“There She Is” in English). It was Korean music like “Teuroteu.” The cartoon’s content is very funny. A rabbit girl loves a cat boy, but I think the cat doesn’t like the rabbit. Later the cat transformed its heart to like her a little bit. I think this cartoon is funny, so I watched it many times. The story was funny, too. At the end, the rabbit and cat love each other, but other cats and rabbits don’t like to love or marry each other. I think it was a good and funny cartoon.

Hi, I’m a garbage can. People always give me some food. My food is garbage because I’m a garbage can. I live in school in front of the classroom. My friends are here, too. I was happy when people gave me food, but my food is getting less than before. I don’t know why, and I’m hungry now. I want to eat lunch! I begged students to give me some garbage, but they can’t hear me. Then I saw it. I saw the reason that my food is less. People are throwing away garbage on the floor! I cannot believe it. Why do people leave garbage on the floor? Give me some food, not the floor!

Last Friday, November 1st, Mr. Patrick gave us special homework which was to complete a seating chart. The reason that he gave us special homework was because our class was complaining about the seating chart that he made. He wanted us to feel how hard making the seating chart is, so from now on, students all know how hard it is and promised to Mr. Patrick not to complain about the seating chart again.

Happy Birthday ClaraNovember 4th was Clara's birthday. I interviewed her. She said, "When I was in class starting my birthday party, I was happy 'cause I'm the first student who started a party without moms. And I got lots of presents. Actually, not everyone gave me presents. Anyway, I liked my birthday party. It was the most interesting party I have ever had!" Our class is thankful to Clara's parents for buying pizzas. On Clara's birthday, everyone celebrated!

The whole class is wondering about the secret cleaner that cleaned Jacky, Dave, Harry, and Tony's desks. On Monday, November 11th, the students noticed that their desks were very clean. Some of them thought the Korean guys that study in our class on Saturdays did it. But a few of them thought that those guys are not very kind to us, so maybe one of the girls in our class did it. Some think the adults or 5th grade cleaned them up. Other's thoughts were different too. The students discovered a note. The note was in Jacky's desk. It says, "Please keep your desk clean, or else you will be in big trouble." And the secret cleaner gave Jacky two more pencils and warned him to bring a pencil case. Anyway, the secret cleaner is still a mysterious mystery
Student of the Month:AlexAlex became student of the month for October. The reasons that he became a student of the month are: Alex does his homework almost every day, and he doesn't get detention almost everyday! Alex's AR points are improving too! He does his AR test well almost every week! He reads more and more books and does more and more book reports. He reads better than before in reading class. They're a lot more reasons that Alex became a student of the month. Everyone, cheer for Alex!
Our WebpageMr. Pat's homepage is improving a lot. He finished up lots of other information. For example, he finished the thing with Library and AR. He finished a new page, Student Work. Mr. Pat is working more for our class homepage, and he will work more too. There will be a lot more things in the class homepage. Mr. Patrick is working on other things too now. The studentsand their parents are waiting for more news. Students always think that the 4th grade is luckier than other classes because we have our own webpage. We don't even have to look at our school webpage! We all hope Mr. Pat can work well on our webpage.
Spelling BeeThe students already did a practice of the spelling bee. The three top students are Erika, Christine, and Jacky. Harry will be the extra student for the spelling bee. If one of the top three is absent, Harry will go out for the spelling bee. Also, Harry needs to study with the top three students too. But if there's nobody absent, Harry will watch the contest with the other students. Harry is really hoping one of those is absent! If there's nobody absent, Harry will be very, very, very sad! Super sad! So sad! SADDEST HARRY IN THE WORLD!!! Everyday Harry prays for the spelling bee.
Writing ArticlesThe 4th grade students are doing article writing work. Mr. Pat will make four groups and the students will work on writing articles. They will find some news in our class and write about the news. The group that has the best article will get a mushroom and put their news on our class webpage. We can see it at Student Work. Now Clara(me) is writing an article about the article. Students always hope that their article will be the best and the parents and grandparents will look at the articles very happily and know lots of things and news about our class and also be thankful for the students.
The X-BoxOur class has an X-box. The teacher, Mr. Pat, puts many words that are bad English on the board with a square around them. That's the X-box. Mr. Pat also puts the correct words beside the wrong word. Everytime we say the wrong one, the teacher gives us an X. That's a little unfair for the guys that always say bad English because they ALMOST ALWAYS say bad English. It's easy for them to get three X's and a detention. Clara thinks that there's nobody speaking bad English at home. She speaks bad English at home, so she hopes the teacher won't give her X's.

Mr. Patrick's BirthdayThe children forgot Mr. Patrick's birthday, so he was disappointed. He wrote the coin question about his birthday. In the newsletter, students' parents saw the newsletters and told the students that Wednesday was Mr. Pat's birthday. The students were sorry for forgetting his birthday. Some of them wrote the Happy Birthday note quickly, speedy fast and gave it to Mr. Patrick. Half of them didn't even look at the newsletter, and some guys just wanted to get a coin. They didn't care about Mr. Pat's birthday and only tried to figure out the soccer player (you know the soccer guy thingy was on the newsletter).

The Reason That Mr. Pat Does Not Like BananasEveryone in our class knows Mr. Patrick does not like bananas, but they do not know the reason clearly. So we interviewed Mr. Patrick. He has not liked bananas since he was 6 or 7 years old. When he was young, he was sick, so his mother thought a banana would make him better. But when he ate the banana, he felt very sick. So now he has grown up, he still does not like bananas. He does not like the smell of bananas. When he smells them, he wants to throw up and feels gross. The students are hoping to see Mr. Patrick eat bananas.
Stolen Pizza Money
On October 23, 2013 pizza money that Mr. Patrick was saving for our pizza was stolen. There were two envelopes. One of them was in front of Mr. Patrick's folder divider, and the other envelope was among some papers that were on the desk to the right of his computer. Mr. Patrick thinks the thief is a person that comes into the classroom a lot, but not a student. Our class hopes the thief will be caught soon.
